When I looked at the calendar this morning, I realized that the end of this semester for university is right around the corner. Since the end of this semester will mark the end of my first year in university, I am actually quite excited about having the summer off so that I can recharge my batteries and be ready to kick off my second year in the fall. After this semester is over, I will be heading back home to spend my summer living with my parents in the house I grew up in. While many people cringe at the thought of living with their parents, this is the only time of the year that I really get to see them, so I actually enjoy it. Although I am acting like this semester is already over, the truth is that I still have to take all of my final examinations before I can leave for the summer. In spite of the fact that I have several buddies who are absolutely dreading the prospect of taking their final examinations, I have already put in a lot of time studying, so I couldn’t feel any better about my own.
As an incentive to finish the semester on a strong note, I have made plans for something that will happen once summer gets started. After I get settled into my parent’s place in Ireland, I have a Shannon airport car rental reserved for my buddy and I. Our purpose in reserving a Shannon airport car rental is to use it for a week to take a road trip that we have planned out. Although it has been a year since we have seen each other, the two of us have been friends since we were little kids, so I know we are going to have a great road trip together.

Over the past few weeks, people have been going crazy over the news that the H1N1 flu virus (which you may also know as the swine flu virus) is spreading across the globe. As the news started to spread that the H1N1 flu virus was believed to be responsible for more than one hundred deaths in Mexico, people started to panic about the virus having the same effect around the world. Even though people are still worried about the fact that the H1N1 virus continues to spread, it has not caused the same level of deaths that it did in Mexico anywhere else in the world. I brought this issue up because it is hard for me to figure out why people continue to be extremely worried about swine flu when it is proving to be much less serious than initially believed. Since the panic level of people around the world has failed to decline (although there is every reason for them to worry less), countries are still taking a hard stance on swine flu.
Even though it doesn’t seem like the concerns over the H1N1 virus are going anywhere soon, I am still planning on taking a vacation this summer. I already planned on taking a trip to Ireland in the middle of the summer, and I’m not going to let this swine flu issue deter me from visiting Ireland (which is a place I have wanted to go for awhile now). In addition to booking my flight and hotel room, I have already reserved a Shannon airport car rental, so there’s no way I am going through the process of canceling all of those reservations. Luckily, my trip isn’t for at least another month, so I have my fingers crossed that people will stop worrying about the H1N1 virus and start worrying about the next thing they see on their television sets!
