I was really impressed with Shannon airport departures, the last time I was there. I often am not very impressed by airports in generally but this one stood out for me. I think that I was in a particularly good mood because my flight had been fantastic. I had asked extra leg room, because I am very tall and as they had no seats available with that, they upgraded me to first class. I have never flown first class before and it was really great having such a comfy seat, such good treatment by the staff and such a lovely meal – a china plate and metal knife and fork were quite a novelty!
I had to change at Shannon to get a small local flight and so I knew that I would have to get through the airport and it was so easy. I am sure my relaxed state of mind helped but my luggage was the first to appear so I quickly got to the departure lounge to wait for my connection. What I liked was the seating was comfortable and it was really clear as to how long it was until the next flight and I even had a staff member ask me if everything was okay. I found a really nice cup of coffee and was able to sit back and relax, knowing exactly what was going on. The departure lounge was light and airy and it was clean. I have experienced ones which were dirty with a depressing atmosphere and this one was much better.
